Amazon International glossary.
7 global selling and VAT terms defined for Amazon sellers.
- VAT — Value Added Tax
- EPR — Extended Producer Responsibility
- IOSS — Import One-Stop Shop
- Remote Fulfillment — Remote Fulfillment with FBA (NARF)
- Marketplace — Amazon Marketplace (Country Site)
- Global Selling — Amazon Global Selling
- Unified Account — North America & Europe Unified Accounts
- VAT — Value Added Tax
- The consumption tax on EU and UK sales. Storing inventory in a country generally creates a local VAT registration duty, so Pan-EU FBA multiplies filings. Amazon collects VAT on some cross-border orders under marketplace rules, and professional tax advice is the norm here.
- EPR — Extended Producer Responsibility
- EU environmental rules that make the seller responsible for packaging and product waste, with per-country registration numbers. Amazon requires proof of registration for affected countries and can block sales without it. France and Germany enforce most visibly.
- IOSS — Import One-Stop Shop
- The EU scheme that lets VAT on low-value imported consignments be collected at checkout instead of at customs. For marketplace orders Amazon typically handles it as the deemed supplier. Mostly relevant to FBM sellers who send orders into the EU from outside it.
- Remote Fulfillment — Remote Fulfillment with FBA (NARF)
- US FBA inventory serving Canada and Mexico orders without storing stock in those countries. Slower delivery promises and per-unit fees in exchange for zero extra inventory placement. A low-risk way to test demand across North America.
- Marketplace — Amazon Marketplace (Country Site)
- A country-level Amazon site with its own catalog, currency, fees, and seller metrics. Listings do not transfer automatically and reviews stay local. Expansion means redoing listings and compliance work for each new site.
- Global Selling — Amazon Global Selling
- Amazon's umbrella program for selling across its international marketplaces from one business. It bundles cross-listing tools and currency payouts, while tax registration and localization stay per-marketplace duties that no program removes.
- Unified Account — North America & Europe Unified Accounts
- A single Seller Central account spanning the marketplaces of a region, with one login and one subscription but per-marketplace listings and fees. Regional unified accounts are linkable into one global selling view.
